ABOUT THE FIRM

Licensed in Massachusetts, Connecticut, & Washington State

Key Benefits: The firm is dedicated to providing the highest quality legal services at competitive rates. We have the technology and flexibility to staff nearly any kind of matter or special project. Case responsibility is not delegated down to low-level associates as is common in large firms. Our services are personal and committed.

Efficiency: The firm was an early adopter of labor saving computer technologies and remains committed to employing processes that make us better, faster, more productive and more cost effective. We are not tied to unproductive “old school” practices and have embraced technology for legal research, fact investigation, case tracking, document storage, litigation, communications, and many other important facets of law practice. This results in our ability to provide the highest quality of service.

Core Competencies: The firm emphasizes the following practice areas: More than 30 years of Commercial Law, Design/Construction Law, Complex Litigation, and Emerging Technology Law experience. Technology practice includes privacy law, data protection, and data/information governance (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, litigation hold, information security policies, managed services outsourcing, cloud computing contracts, retention policies, etc.).

Representative Clients and Industries: In addition to hundreds of small businesses, start-ups, and contractors, we have successfully represented a wide range of government, public, private and nonprofit organizations in the fields of: manufacturing, computer software, medical devices, banking, architecture & engineering, institutional owners, disaster recovery, transportation, banking, and higher education. See list of Representative Matters.

History: Originally founded in 1991 in downtown Seattle, the Law Offices of Steven J. O’Neill successfully served nearly 600 clients during its first 10 years. In 2002, Steven O’Neill joined the construction law practice group at Halloran & Sage in Hartford. In 2004, his entire construction practice group joined the Hartford office of Thelen LLP, then the largest construction law firm in the country. In 2007, Mr. O’Neill joined Massachusetts-based Bowditch & Dewey as a partner in its construction law and business litigation practice areas. He also founded a cutting-edge technology practice area focusing on Electronic Discovery, Information Governance Policy Compliance and Information Security Compliance.

To better serve the legal needs of clients and to be more responsive to accelerating changes in technology affecting clients today, in 2009 Steven O’Neill reconstituted the firm with office and meeting locations serving Boston, Hartford, Worcester, and Springfield. Our Technology Law and Consulting practices are national in scope.

COVID-19 Changes: Fortunately, all of our remote law practice systems for conference calls, secure video (Zoom, Teams), document sharing, accounting, etc., have been in place for many years and thoroughly battle tested. We recognize that the virus is airborne and more likely to infect people indoors. To prevent the further spread of disease, most meetings, hearings, and other business will be conducted remotely. If in-person meetings are necessary, we reserve the right to inquire about vaccination status, and have a N95 masking policy indoors. Masks will be provided.
